Dermatopathology

As board certified, fellowship-trained dermatopathologists, we help dermatologists and other physicians care for patients with skin ailments. We see over 15,000 skin specimens annually.

Our exemplary skills in microscopy are supported by an array of staining reagents and antibodies, including an extensive selection of skin-appropriate immunohistochemical stains. Difficult cases are typically reviewed by two dermatopathologists for additional quality assurance.

Our histology staff is trained to perform vertical and horizontal sectioning of alopecia cases for more accurate interpretation. We also offer direct immunofluorescence testing of skin and mucosa for immunobullous disorders, lichen planus, and certain vasculitides.

In partnership with our two board certified hematopathologists, we can also incorporate on-site hematopathology opinions on cutaneous lymphomas and perform ancillary studies (flow, CISH) as needed.

As members of the Willamette Dermatology Society, we’re proud of our commitment to participate in local and regional dermatology case conferences on a monthly basis. We offer periodic educational seminars for dermatology physician assistants, and voluntarily participate in a CLIA-approved American Academy of Dermatology slide review proficiency testing program.
